The Kinetic Approach

Selected as a finalist for the Live Media / Performance category of the Celeste Prize 2011 - New York. The Kinetic Approach will be included in the 2011 celeste.prize catalogue and will be exhibited at the Invisible Dog Art Center in Brooklyn, New York, November 11-13.

I am working out the logistical aspects of travelling to New York with all the supplies and equipment required for the installation. Hopefully I will be in Brooklyn the week of November 7th.

Update December 20, 2011:

The trip to New York and the Celeste Prize 2011 show went very well. I met some great people, saw some incredible art and performances in the show, and reacquainted myself with NYC after not visiting for a very long time.

Here are some photos that the Celeste Prize organizers took of me and my installation.

AWOL Gallery Square Foot Show

AWOL Gallery Square Foot Show

Dates: August 5 - 21, 2011
Location: Twist Gallery - 1100 Queen St. West

The Square Foot Show is an interesting exhibition of artwork that is strictly 12" x 12". I decided to participate in the show with 3 pieces that were generated during my week at The Gladstone with The Kinetic Approach.

Western Triptychs

May 26, 2011
After my original C-print hanging installation piece Vanishing Point was accepted to the "Scapes" Propeller Gallery exhibition and the annual Latcham Gallery exhibition, I decided to further explore this discipline by reviewing all my photography from two expeditions to the western United States in 2007 and 2009.
What I discovered is that I have several thematic image threads throughout my collection due to various factors such as chosen routes, time of year, similar topography, and just plain old happenstance.

The result is four additional pieces in what I am now calling my Western Triptychs series. Each piece consists of three photographs and three companion graphics. The graphics reveal the exact point in time and space that the photographs were taken.

Neon Stingray

A generative piece I created online with Silk, by Yuri Vishnevsky. He has also developed a version for iPad (iPhone & iPod coming soon) using donations on Kickstarter.

It’s fun, give it a try!

Parallel City - In Depth

March 23, 2011
My interactive media installation Parallel City was part of the curated exhibition Here and There. The show ran from March 2 - 13, 2011 at the Propeller Centre for Visual Arts in collaboration with One Hour Empire.

This was a multi-disciplinary media arts initiative as it encompassed research, on-location shooting, audio and video editing, programming, and even some basic constructing work.

The show went very well and I received excellent feedback on the installation. I was also lucky enough to be interviewed at the opening for ArtSync. The first part has Dan Bazuin talking about the exhibition and the collaboration with One Hour Empire. I come in at about the 2:20 mark.
